Adopt A Family, USVI pairs supporters with families in need in the US Virgin Islands who were negatively impacted as a result of Hurricanes Irma and Maria. We work directly with these families through a network of “Adopters” and “Adoptees” matched using a system of non paid volunteers.
Families in the USVI are facing difficult living situations. The islands’ infrastructure was destroyed and as a result there is no power, no hospital, no running water and impassable roads for a majority of island residents. Additionally, many public schools and community businesses were closed due to damage. The tourism industry which sustains the economy of the VI’s is was severely impacted leaving many residents without work and now possibly exposed to isolated stress and crime. Although it will be quite some time until the community is up and running, one thing we can provide now is, HOPE! Through Adopt A Family, USVI you will have the opportunity to provide a care package for a family in need that has either individually registered, or asked for assistance through the Family Resource Center (http://frcusvi.org/) on St. Thomas or many other community partners. Your support and generosity in providing care packages speaks volumes and will touch the lives of both adults and children. It is a wonderful way to come together and remember the true meaning of giving back.
