Frequently Asked Questions – FAQ

FAQ

How do I adopt a family?

Thank you for supporting the victims of hurricane Irma and Maria in the USVI. To adopt a family please click here

How long will it take for me to receive my adopted family?

Please allow us anywhere from 24-48 hours for us to match you with a family and to receive an email confirmation. Please check your SPAM/JUNK folder.

Is it okay to start mailing now?

Yes, feel free to mail your package as soon as possible.

I didn’t receive much detail about my family. Can you be more specific?

We recommend you send something that isn’t size specific and that is considered a generic basic needs item for everyday use.

Are you a 501(c)3?

No. We are a group of nonpaid volunteers all from the US Virgin Islands trying to make a difference in a personalized manner. We do not have a tax ID.

Can I donate money to your cause?

Thank you so much for the generous offer. Unfortunately, we are not set-up to receive funds and would prefer that you select an organization that is setup to quickly disperse funds to the community such as The Community Foundation of the Virgin Islands:

In order to help those impacted by the hurricane, the Community Foundation of the Virgin Islands (CFVI) has established the “Fund for the Virgin Islands”. CFVI is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that has been operating in the U.S. Virgin Islands for more than 25 years. It has supported past relief efforts in the region and is now working closely with the Government of the U.S. Virgin Islands and community providers to identify priorities and direct resources for immediate needs as well as long-term recovery efforts. For more information and to donate, visit http://cfvi.net/donate/donate-fund.php.

How will we be able to confirm that the boxes are received by families in the VI?

When you ship your box be sure keep the ticket slip so you can track your package and its delivery.

Where are you based out of?

We are group of former and current St. Thomas residents helping out! The initiative was created by Sabrina Jureidini and Pam Engle. We have additional volunteers who were all displaced by hurricane Irma and Maria helping out behind the scenes. We are all based throughout different states in the US. Our true home however is St Thomas. We are doing what we can to help from afar and to help rebuild and restore the islands.

Are boxes going to St. John?

Yes, our boxes are going to all three Virgin Islands, St. John, St. Thomas and St. Croix.  However, we can guarantee that boxes WILL go to St. John if you request it. We will try our best to accommodate your request for a preferred island.

Can we send dog food/cat food?

Not yet. However, we are working with the Humane Society on St. Thomas to send care packages to them too.

How can I ship to my loved ones?

You may ship directly to your loved ones in the Virgin Islands now that the postal service is restored. You can send USPS, FedEx, UPS or by freight.
